Wevoy: A Love Letter to Authentic Travel

If you’re as chronically online as I am, you’ve probably seen the term “side quests” used frequently. And no, we’re no longer just talking about video games; we now use this phrase to describe our random hobbies, side gigs, or spontaneous activities outside of our regular programming.

Some may say these quests add a little razzle dazzle to our lives… others may say they distract us from a monotonous reality. Personally, when I think of side questing and the true purpose it serves, I instantly think of Cara Nichols and how years of side questing ultimately led to the creation of Wevoy. To stay on brand, I could call it a “local side quest navigator,” but that wouldn’t do it justice. Wevoy is a love letter to Latin America and the Caribbean in the form of a boutique travel platform. It is where local people guide your trip from beginning to end, crafting an authentic experience that honors the rhythm, beauty, and spirit of the places they call home.

So, if your next quest is an authentic travel experience, then this article is just for you.

The Mind Behind Wevoy

Wevoy was created in 2025 by Cara Nichols, whom I like to call the Queen of Side Quests. Why? Because Cara is like a Bajan Dora the Explorer, charting her own paths of discovery and wonder. Her journey has led her to become a dancer/choreographer, a chemist, a practice manager, and an event coordinator. Each path allowed her to develop a new skill, adopt various perspectives, and network.

“I do what feels right for me in the moment. It didn’t always go as planned, and I didn't follow a particular path. But I realize that everything has brought me to where I am right now,” Cara reflected.

Though Cara pursued different ventures, there was always one constant throughout her journey: travel.

One could even go as far as saying travelling is in Cara’s DNA, as her parents are the owners of Value Vacations Travel and Tours, which meant she was flying before she could even crawl. So, making her own mark in the travel industry kind of feels like a birthright.

The Main Quest

“I feel like the only thing I look forward to is What’s next. What country am I going to go to next? That’s the reason to live. It makes me feel free to be able to travel the world and see and experience other people's cultures.”

It’s that yearning for travel mixed with her love for culture that gave birth to Wevoy. “Voy,” short for “voyage,” and “We,” representing community, suggest we are going somewhere together. The platform’s initial focus is on the Caribbean and Latin America, appreciating the beauty and uniqueness in our region first and foremost.

“I always say, tourism feels very extractive, and it should feel like more of an exchange. I have a master's in Development Studies with a focus on Agrarian, Food and Environmental studies, so I love hearing what people think, the direction their product and their brand should go in. What they want to share with other people is important to consider.”

That’s what Wevoy is all about. Think of it like your local friend who shows you around their island through their unique local lens. Not only showing you the trendy spots you see on TikTok or Instagram, but the hidden gems that only they would know.

Your Friend on the Inside

Are you an adventurous traveller? Do you enjoy cultural experiences? What kind of cuisine do you like?

Your interests are factored into each itinerary, mixed with expertise from locals on the ground. If you’re unsure where you want to go or what you want to do, there are also curated itineraries available. Every option is backed by the opinions and recommendations from locals.

“There's real value in having the opinions from local people, even if you don't have the guide with you. And a lot of times you miss little things that we don’t realize because we didn't have somebody there to guide us.”

Customized itineraries typically take seven to ten days, while ready-made itineraries can take between one and three days to be curated. However, it all depends on the destination, your inputs as the traveller, and any extra requirements that may be needed.

“We want to ensure we provide itineraries quickly, efficiently and respectfully. When we go into other people's countries or how we share or listen to people's opinions, it’s in a respectful manner. Sometimes, you go into a place, and you think you know the best way to tell their story, but you never really ask them who they are. So, we want to make sure that when we advertise or when we market, that we're asking the question, who are you, and what do you want to share?”

So, now that you know which platform to use, the only question left is: Which country will you visit next? Wevoy has you covered.
